    Is there a difference between the front brake pads for a special compared to a standard?
    They have some on e-bay but say they're for a special.
    I should check mikes - he seems to have everything else, especially after reading that other thread.

    '81 XS1100H

    Tkat brace, new coils/wires/plugs, refurbed carbs (thanks 81 xsproject), recon'd top end, windshield (thanks dpotter58), resprayed tank and panels, 4-1 exhaust, sweet xs pod filters, in line fuel filters, progressive springs, thick hand grips, jumped headlight relay.

    I used GEORGEFIX'S MOTORCYCLE PARTS on ebay for the special fronts FA41 and FA61 a few weeks ago Good price , cheap shipping, got here pretty quick. The standards use the FA34 on all 3 calipers, used only on the rear on the specials.

      Yes, the two are completely different. The entire front caliper is different.

      Anybody have a minute to find a post that shows some photos of the differences?

        Specials are special...

        and Standards are not. The special uses tapered pads in the front that are also left and right side specific. The rears are not tapered. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look under the maintenance section for brakes for more of a description. They are really easy to swap out...
