  • electrical help please

I have a 78 standard that I just took the Vetter fairing off of and put a headlight on. Well a friend was helping with the fairing so we wouldn't scratch the new paint . He unplugged all the wires.

I don't know what all the single and double bullet ended wires go to. What goes to what. I don't have a stop light or tach or fuel gauge or any blinkers Non of the lights on the pilot box light.

I'm reasonably sure all the fuses are good.someone eliminated the fuse block and put in-lines on it but they all appear good.
I want to know what color wires go to what color and what they do. all this is in the headlight bucket.

    Thanks, John.

PS, Prom, she runs like a scalded ape, Thanks again.

Right turn signal: running light should be blue, turn signal should be brown.
Left turn signal: running light again blue, turn signal green.
Headlight: Yellow I believe is high, dark green is low beam.
Tail light has a blue for running, a green with white stripe for braking.
Fuel gauge/tach housing has a dark green, but also a white(which should be for the tach) and a yellow, it seems.
The trun signals will probably be the single connectors.
Pilot box probably isn't lighting as you have open circuits on all the wires.

buy a cheap harbor freight voltage meter and start checking wires. With a charged battery and some patience you should be able to determine what wire does what. Dont forget to turn the key on and switch the headlamp on. Also remember that without a bulb to develop resistance the thermal flasher will not flash, but you should be able to determine what wire goes to what side.
      Have fun.

"Thanks for keeping us abreast of developements."

          I know what you mean...
Sometimes I used to stop off at those clubs on my way home from work, too.
I can still recall which male connector goes into which female receptical.
Don't need a wiring diagram, or a trip to a nudie joint, to remember that.

Ends up the problems had nothing to do with fairing removal after all, it was just coincidence that the wire went bad at the same time. it was the wire that ties into the positive off the battery cable. It only had 1 strand holding it on, enough to show 12 volts at the spade but not enough amps to run anything . All fixed now. Thanks to all who piped in.

I replaced my headlamp housing the other day. Damn, if it didn't look like a Crayola Crayon box with all the colors in there.

I'm just hoping I got it all correct when hooking them up. Otherwise, there should be quite a cloud of that wonderful scent of wires burning with I turn on the key.
