Does anybody know the difference (If any) between the needle and seat Part#48-1445 and the carb rebuild kit Part#48-1408 other than the gasket? It looks like there are more parts to the rebuild kit, but I can't see what they are.

Also...stupid question maybe...probably...but what is an XS1100L? I'm looking at brake pads for my front and rear, but some of the kits look different and I'm not sure which I need.

Another random question: There's a fuel cap on partsnmore, both of the rubber seals on my gas caps are pretty....rough/cracked/horrible. Does anybody know if those come with them or where I can get the seals at?

IF you have your STANDARD front forks, the "L" will not work. The pads for the standards are the same, front and rear, for after market. The FACTORY pads have different part numbers, as the rear pads have a little different compound on the pad.
I have NOT dealt with partsnmore in a while. the carb kit they had DID NOT fit my '79 carbs properly. Georgefix on ebay has ALL the kits, and they work. If you just need the needle and seats with "O" ring, try mikesxs.com. You can order the parts from him, just order two pair of everything and don't let him know it's for an 11.

I bought the partsnmore rebuild kits for my 79 standard, but Z1 has a more complete kit. The Z1 kit includes everthing you get with the partsnmore kit plus the adjusting needles with springs, as well as the emulsion tube needles plus the jets for $17. That's a lot more stuff for $5 more. I have the "screw-in" type float needle seats on my 81 AND my 79; Z1 is not showing that type kit for any of the year models. I think I'll try this "Georgefix" source, next time around. I've had "wrong" kits and pieces from different places.

OldNorton - Looks like the screw-in seat to me - just doesn't have the little basket on the bottom. Says specifically on the description for '79 F and SF.

That rebuild looks like it will work for my Special's carbs, but my standard's carbs are the ones I'm rebuilding currently. Will this kit work? There is another for an SG, but it doesn't look right.

I buy EBC FA34 for front and rear. Dennis Kirk/Chapperal and a host of other on-line dealers sell em. EBC's seem to be a fave here. I have tried pads of lesser price and higher price and always seem to get the "garbage truck" squeals and go back to the EBC brand. Specials take a different pad (thats why they are "special"). My disc prep work consists of a good cleaning with emery cloth and brake cleaner. Don't forget to "run em in" before doing any high speed take downs.

Jason, If you have the "late" '80 carbs with the "O" ring, that should work. The early "80" carbs used the same kit as the '79. Yamaha and Mikuni made changes "mid stream"! Just check the type of needle and seat you need, and order the kit with the correct one.

Austin - when you go to Z1, just make sure you are browsing under the right bike (does that make sense?). They have the parts divided up by the different models.

Models and seats...

Z1 has some separate categories, but some of the parts still say "Special model only" or something like that. I think it's separated by years only if you look at the product descriptions.

There are two sets of rebuild kits for the 80 xs models. They look identical but one says "for special" and it has an extra main jet screw. Do the specials have two mains? Do the carbs change from model to model or year to year? I can definitely see the differences in both of my carbs from the fuel lines running into 4 inlets vs 2, float material (brass vs plastic), slides, needle/seat (little button with screwed in seat vs little wire hook and the seat held down by a bracket and screw) and the jet shapes.

If there isn't a difference in the carbs between specials and standards for that year (if they both have the same seats), then I might as well get the extra main for a buck more.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...I'm new.

My brother has an '80 Standard, and when he first got it the two center carbs had different jets than the two outside carbs. It's got something to do with pollution control or something. My bro jetted all his the same, and it runs fine. Don't take my word though - you can bet somebody else will be along here soon who knows definitively.
