    driveshaft

Hey Cobia, no the mid-drive oil is self-contained and won't leak out. Yeah man, I'll give you a hand. Do you have the bronze spacer you need for the driveshaft yet? If not, I'll pick one up for you at Ace over here.

The middle drive is "sealed" as far as the drive shaft. There is a "U" joint bolted to a spline on the end of the middle gear. The Redline is 100% synthetic, and holds up VERY well. I've used it in all my machines for the past 15 years in all my machines. I've only had ONE problem, and that was water getting into the middle drive because the vent was routed wrong.
DO grease the splines, as the grease fitting Yamaha put in does NOT do anything but get grease all over the inside of the swing arm.
As for my "cruise" speed, I commute on my bike, and try to verify triple digit speeds are available every morning on the way into work.

        Thanks again guys

Good of you to offer, Phil, thanks.
No I haven't picked up the spacer since I haven't gotten that far yet. But if you know exactly what to get by all means...I'm good for it. How about the O-Rings that are mentioned in the mod tip to avoid rattle? I'll have to get those too. Shouldn't be hard to find, I may even have some. The unit is on its way!!!!

        And thanks to you Ray,
I'll have to look up the Redline lubricants in the supply stores around here.
re: speed - I'm sure I've reached triple digits several times but my speedo only goes to 85. I let the tach keep on climbing but I'm afraid the speedo needle with break...LOL!! Quite a thrill. Only you get to do it on a daily basis

          spacer

Robert, yeah I Know exactly what spacer you need (good bronze one) and the o-ring too. I'll pick 'em up next time I'm by the store. It has to be cut down to 16mm, I can do that for you here at my shop. Gimmie a holler when you're ready to do the job.

              750 Final

I have 15000 on my conversion with NO trouble. This mod made all the difference in the world. My daily ride to and from work is 54 miles (total) and with the old gearing would have gotten to be a problem.
If the splines on the 1100 shaft are beefier, then they wouldn't fit in the 750 final drive.
Don't hesitate to change drives, you won't regret it.

                  BikerPhil's Da Man!!

Second to last post on this!!! Last one will include performance statistics!!
Got the 750 rear end last Wed.
This Wed took the rear wheel off and the original rear end. (and all that entails!)
Thurs - took the wheel down and had a new tire installed and balanced,
Fri AM - Plugged the splooge holes with RTV and installed new 1/2" washer... Phil got to my house about 9:30 and we got down to business...
Needless to say, because of his experience, we pulled the driveshaft, installed the spacer and the o-ring, and had the replacement rear end installed within an hour's time. We were riding by 1230!!! ( had other issues to deal with.)
                  What a difference!!
I want to let you know that were it not for Phil's assistance and all you folks encouragement and tips I would not be enjoying what is an incredible mod to my 80G right now.
                  What a difference!
Chop you definitely need to keep up your research!...LOL!!!
btw - That monoshock bike is the shiite!!
AGAIN THANKS PHIL FOR YOUR HELP ON THIS!! Couldn't have done it w/out you...at least not as quickly! LOL!!
                  Phil - You Da Man!!

                    No problem

You're welcome! Glad to meet a fellow XS'er and lend a hand. If your mechanic can't get those carbs straightened out, I'll give you a hand going thru them. Wait till that bike is running sweet and you'll be one happy XS'er.

                      Performance report

Well, I'm happy to report that all is well in swap out land.
Took her out today on I-95 and it was impressive....
                      70MPH @ 3.50k RPMs
                      80MPH @ 4.00k RPMs
                      85MPH @ 4.25k RPMs

These are great numbers and the engine does seem to like it. Less vibration (not that mine really had any that was bothersome), less strain on the engine, and it just purrs along just fine. Thank you very much.
But those of you that have already made the swap knew that. That's why you did it and recommended it.
Thanks again Chop for the mod, the rest of you for the advice, and last but not least thanks BikerPhil for the hands on help.
Hopefully this will add many more years to the life of my 80G.
