I thought all the XS intake bells were 52mm and the XJ was 54??
There I go thinkin' again.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.
You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

Hey Tod,
Yeah, I remember reading that in previous posts years ago also, but then I checked mine with the caliper, and just went out and RECHECKED it again, making sure that I had zeroed it correctly, you got me doubting myself, but both the 79 and the 81 carbs inlet bells OD measured 55mm!! I just checked MikesXS and they sell a wide variety of filter sizes, 52, 54, 57, 62, 64mm sizes, so the 54 mm size is the closest to ours and should easily be slipped/stretched to fit onto the 55mm sized bell.
Now, I don't have a 78 carb bank to measure, and perhaps it's the smaller 52mm even though the 79 takes the same parts!?
I just quickly checked the carb body #s on the Yamaha Site, and the 78 and the 79F have the 2H7 carb bodies, but the 79SF has the 3H5 prefix....so perhaps that's the difference, that the 78 and 79F have the smaller 52mm bells, but the 79SF and later carbs have the 54mm bells!?

No ones ever accused me of being "PC"...so being Patriotic is hawkish?

BTW, the "Extraordinary Guy" just happened to mention Tods avatar change a few days ago...
BTW2, have worked on all XS carbs. Maybe I've not paid close enough attention but did not notice bell difference between F and SF. Will have to look into that.
Must have been in a thread that I didn't happen to read, I actually don't read them all!
I wasn't making fun of his Avatar, I think it's awesome, was just a play on words with the Eagle/Hawk type bird, and patriotism and such. I don't want to start any kind of political discussion about the war and such. I fully support out TROOPS and the almost impossible job that they have been to perform, I'll leave it at that!
I/we would appreciate you MRO or anybody with a 78 or a 79F checking the intake bell OD for a final word on this pod filter fitment size issue!
