  • Taillight/Tag Relocation

So, i'm almost to the running/legal/ridable point in my build... Now I'm kinda stuck. I rotated the rear fender forward, and now I have no place for my tag and taillight. I'm thinking about some type of side-mount aftermarket tag bracket with an integrated taillight... but I know there is a less expensive way to approach this situation.

Any Ideas? pics of what you guys have done?(i know there are some of you out there that have had this dilemma). I'm thinking of using the bolt hole for the passenger peg... no passenger seat anymore HA.

Did you see "my winter project" in the forum. I pad $5.00 for that setup on ebay, I just scanned the "tail lights" in parts until I found one that looked like it would work.

        Put it back again?

        Hi Justin,
there's more than one reason for the stock fender to be as far down at the back as they put it. Or do you really want to have that thick streak of mud up your back every time you get caught out in the rain?
        Enough with the teasing.
Use the cast grab bar from an '80 which has a mounting plate & bolt holes for the rear light? Or bury a whole bunch of red LEDs into the back of the seat to act as the stop & tail lights?
Does your State issue neat little bike plates or make you fly one as big as a bedsheet (or at least, as big as a car plate)? Either way, you can most likely get a chrome sideways plate bracket at the nearest swap meet but I've always thought that particular plate mounting style was really ugly. However, with no fender back there to hang the plate from, I'm at a loss for a neater alternative.

I know, in the rain it will be a big pain... my plan is to not ride in the rain whatsoever... but that is my PLAN lol. I have a daily driver car, and it will be the summertime in GA during a drought... I should be alright for the majority of the time. As for the tag/taillight situation... I'm looking around on ebay right now at the side-mount brackets and have also found brackets made specifically for bobbed fenders... looks like it would sit on top of the fender... not sure exactly how that would look. I'm thinking of going with the side mount bracket, but they are mostly made to fit onto an axle bracket or, in some cases, lower spring mount bolt. I was hoping to go for the passenger peg bolt hole ( I like the location, and no longer need passenger pegs with a solo seat). I'm not sure exactly how all this will go down but I'll keep everyone updated... I'll post pics when I get a chance.

          Any more ideas?

I made my own side mount bracket out of 18awg steel scraps I had laying around then used an LED frame from ebay to light it. You can buy the ready made ones with a taillight above them but the aren't cheap.

Here's a pic of mine mounted to the passenger peg hole.

Post a pic of your bike so we can see what you're working with!
