Hope this helps along side the tutorial found in tech tips
after local mech wanted $80 for a sync session & made me spell YICS several times & after the remarks of some members of this site I bought a $50 carb sync off ebay
built the YICS tool also from tech tips for $10, cheaper than the oem that went over $30 on ebay, works fine
in other words I saved a bunch of money by switching to XS11.com
YICS tool & XJ11 carb sync done in 15mn (each)
so easy an efftard could do it
on this chapter:
the homemade YICS works great, insert straight and keep the lever up & tighten wing nut, no flaws.
Now if you are a flaw you turned both lever & wing nut to save about a sec. on the screwing job. You screwed yourself when the lock nut comes loose and the tool dismantles itself at the end of the gallery. Hence the coat hanger and magnet bonus picture.
Otherwise:
calibrate every gauge to the same carb if you use the same type sync.
the fuel petcock to the PRI position
use a fan

Greg - did those line dampers come with your vacuum gauges or did you put them on? I'd like to find some inexpensive dampers, but haven't been able to locate.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

81XS - Thanks. I might just try that, as I just replaced my pilot jets and have a spare set. Does it matter which end of the hose you put them in?
DBI think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

the connecting vacuum line is an addition - very necessary though
I followed the drawing for the probe configuration, I don't think putting them in reverse would have much consequence82 XJ1100 Klonk= SOLD

Greg - what I was wondering about was the little white plastic dampers that show just under the gauges in the pic that has them on the handlebars. Where'd you get those little do-dads?I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
