scalded dog; re: "bogging down" problem > this may not be your problem, but; two different times in the past ten years, mine did the "bogging down" like you're describing. With the air filter OFF, it wouldn't bog down, but still wouldn't run like it should. Was ridable but "not right". Both times the cam chain was off, a sprocket tooth at the crank. No bent valves and it would run. This happened both times when all the adjustment was gone from the chain. So if the bogging down sorta goes away with removal of air filter or pod filters (whichever you've got), check cam timing.
Each time, I finally would get new camchain installed, and would run proper with the air filter(s).

ONR, thanks for the response, since I also have a standard xs 1100, I have experienced kinked fuel lines, so I checked and double checked, but you got me to thinking about fuel starvation, gas pours out of petcocks with full stream, but, I have not had to deal with the "octopus" much as this is the first special I have owned, so I am going to bypass the octy, and see what happens, just hope the floats in the carbs do their job. Thanks again. Later 'Dog

Boy are you lucky! You must have been running with the cam-to-shim clearances on the loose side at that time, as to not making contact with the piston crowns...

Yeah! I'm still thanking my lucky stars that one or some valves didn't get tweaked a bit. "Clearances" were actually all fairly close, and ZERO clearance on 3 intakes. I think it depends on the shape of the contour of which combustion chamber, and also, maybe which direction the chain slips. Clockwise, or counter-clockwise. I actually think it slipped in a different direction each time, because it ran so different from this time, from when I had ridden it that way 9 years ago for a good long time. Still quite puzzled about all the answers to the situation.................

            Clutch Talk

I told T.C. about my clutch situation last year . Seems the P.O.(or the factory) substituted a bolt for the adjuster . It slips a bit under heavy load in 5th but not enough to worry too much . I ordered all the bits I think I need but have been afraid to take it apart with all this talk about leaving that section together in a clutch job . So ...
To replace the (adjuster) bolt with the normal adjuster with the philips head ,seal for same , locknut and case seal . What would the procedure be ?
