  • Oil Cooler?

Sorry I'm so full of questions these days, but I'm tryin to make the old girl as reliable as possible.

Could anyone suggest where to get an aftermarket oil cooler
    for a 1980 XS1100G ??
And where would the oil connections (draw & return) be on the bike?

Don't be sorry, the only bad question is the one that doesn't get asked.. and we were all there at one point.

Very wide, differing opinions on the benefits of an oil cooler. I personally think that it can't hurt to lower the oil temp a bit, but others will argue the the temp difference is so negligable as to not be necessary. Up to you and your wallet.

Any small after market oil cooler will work on it just fine. Mounting for the rad is normally via 2 threaded holes in the front of the frame near the top. To connect to the engine requires a special adapter plate that mounts between the oil filter housing and the engine. It's held in place with a special hollow bolt that allows the oil filter mounting bolt to screw into it. As to where to get it, it's akin to looking for the holy grail. Keep an eye on Ebay and other auctions, swap meets, and your local salvage yard.
