Any speedo from a Yamaha from that era will fit. The 120 speedo is from a 650, the 140 is from a 750, and a 160 is from the 79 xs11 Special. They will all work, as they all used the same speedo drive ratio.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP. DOES THE CASE ALSO MATCH ON THE OLDER ONES? DO YOU HAVE TO RECALABRATE IT?

              Yes. they all fit

              If you stay with xs1100. Standard=square, Special=round

The housings are all the same style, but some of the older 650's may have black housings instead of chrome. Any speedo made after 79 will be of the 85 mph flavor. No calibration needed.

                        Try Canadian eh?

                        Hi Tired,
as has been said, any XS model speedo will be a direct no-calibration-needed fit on your '81 Special. There may be different idiot lights in some speedos and if the outer bucket is chromed while yours is painted (or vice-versa) the case will easily swap. Just remember the trip odometer stalk is a left-hand thread so screw it on to screw it off. Also if you get a Canadian speedo they were never were limited to that 85mph max reading nonsense so you can get a more modern one. Alas that Canadian speedos read in kilometers but any fool can multiply by 0.6 in his head, eh? And it'll say 260 on it rather than 160 which will really impress those who fail to see the KPH on the dial.
