90 degree petcocks

Hello does anyone have any 90 degree petcocks the ones I have are like 45 degrees, I understand this will fix my KN pod filter problem.? Where the fuel line hooks up to.

To do that, you'll probably have to go aftermarket with an adapter plate. The standard petcocks are 90 degrees, but won't fit a special tank unfortunately.

Hi Peter,

I had the same problem when I fitted K&Ns; I had a good bike breakers close to me and spent a couple of hours measuring petcocks.

I found a few different types which fitted the tank, and decided on some compact versions with 90degree outlet and a "proper"off position.

Sorry; I have no real clue what they were off, but lots seemed to be the same fitting.

I did not want to use the octy, so the loss of the prime lines was an advantage!

I used Pingels on my '80 Midnight Special. They are expensive but good quality. The Pingels have a hole nearly 1/4" in diameter straight down through them when open so there's nothing to impede the flow of fuel. I found that Pingel model 4111-AH4 for the Yamaha YZ-80 are a perfect fit on my XS1100 Midnight Special and still clear the filters. The 4111-AH4 model has On-Off-Reserve, an aluminum hex shaped body with 1/4"NPT threads and single outlet and includes the mounting bracket with holes spaced 34mm apart. (The larger and more common models with 3/8" threads like those used on Harleys could be installed on the Standard tank.) The slotted hole in the tank needs to be wider in the middle to allow the filter to go up through the hole but otherwise they bolt right on. I used a small sanding bit in my Dremel tool to cut out some material from the center of the hole. Take care with the 4111 petcock since the body and threads are aluminum and the threads are very delicate. Do not screw it into the aluminum mounting bracket without putting something on the threads to keep it from sticking (or some teflon tape or form-a-gasket sealant when you get ready to install it) because the aluminum will gall and tear out the threads when you try to unscrew it. Install the Pingels so the outlet is facing in towards the carbs but angled back towards the rear about 30 degrees so the outlet tubes will not hit the frame under the tank.

THanks for the tip, I'm going buy 2 of them from ebay for like 160.00 So they are guranteed to work for my Oval KN pod filters?? Could you tell me what you did to your carbs, jetting sizes, needle jet clip postion etc??

I used Pingels like that but with just one outlet. You can read all about it on my webpage. At first I changed to larger jets but then went back to the stock ones, it depends on your exhaust system.
Don't forget you need to find a place to terminate the vent hoses that used to go to the air box. They need a place with quite air. The old carbs had internal vent holes but the Katana ones use external vents.

Okay guys here is my quick fix for my petcock issues....first I grinded flush the two feed lines comming out of the base and then I drilled out the remaining brass lines about a 1/4". Now I'm going to get some 1/4" copper tube about 12" long and split it in half. Fitting the one end of each into the base of the petcock. I'll be useing JB weld to seal the tubes into the base. But before that I'll need to do a dry fit up and bend the tubes to what I need to accomodate the freaking pod filters. After that is done get my good old JB weld and put it all together. I'll let you guys know how it all turns out.

Hi Peter,

Here are the filters and petcocks I spoke about earlier.

I converted them from Vac operation to manual (don't like vac taps!) and reversed one to right hand exit to simplify the hoses.

Total cost was about £10.........
