80 MNS Tail Light

Beautifull day in SD today so I rode the MNS to work. Rode home and put in the garage and when I looked back the tail light was on and the switch off. Thinking no big deal might just be the brake switch being misadjusted so readjusted and the tail light was still on. Okay, so I then unhooked both wires to switch......STILL ON! Finally pulled the tail light cover off and found both bulbs on and had to remove them to keep from draining battery. Any idea what's causing this? thx in advance dew

Hey Dew,

Aside from turning the key switch too far to the left into the Locking/Parking position which will turn on the parking light, then the tail/brake lights should NOT be able to turn on with the key in the normal OFF position!

So...there are several wires that run around the fender, under the seat, and a good chance that they have either gotten chaffed, crossing or shorting out or onto the other wires.

First, put the bulb back in, and then pull the fuse for the tail light, and IF it goes out, then it's somewhere on that circuit. But if the lgiht stays on with the tail light fuse out, then it's probably involving other wires from other circuits!

Well the lights both stay on with fuse pulled. I am in need of a wiring diagram for 80 MNS or equivilant model. Anyone have something that could be sent on line? thx dew
