Trying to decide on new rear shocks....

Well the stockers are slowly losing their oil everywhere, so I've been looking at new ones, and today I got a new email from bike bandit.

I was looking at the progressives in there, the $150 ones or so and then adding whatever springs I wanted. Are they worth the money? Or should I get some air shocks from JCW or somewhere else.

I see the progressives have an option of a spring rate for a 200lb rider.

Most of my riding is by myself and I'm about 225.

Looks like I may be looking at a different set of bars as well, but I'm still looking at ideas here in the forum. being 6'3" I like my arms out further than they are with the stock bars.

I'm using JW $80 shocks, regular type, no air. Got rid of the crappy springs they come with and put the stock springs on with a few modifications to the hardware. I am satisfied with the way they ride.

Look on ebay for shock for the V-max. There are some on there that I have been eyeing that have adjustable length, come in lots of cool colors, and look like moders sportbike shocks with the separate gas chamber. They are $169 I believe.

Did you lay out the steps for your hydraulic clutch mod anywhere? Plus - what have been the real benefits? I see you put "awesome" in your signature and was wondering if you could expand on that?

i did do some browsing and didn't run in to any that said that. But i'll keep my eye open as I'm looking for a few parts.

I'm also 225, 6'6", and ride solo as well. I put on the "Crappy" JCW shocks with their springs, and have been happy with how they perform. My OEM's dampeners had worn out and I had experienced the bucking bronco kind of ride....hit the throttle and the rear end would rise up and down!!

That all went away with the JCW shocks, which are the same ones as the MikesXS, Partsnmore...generic MONZA brand!! I don't have a full fairing, just windshield, but also have aluminum saddle bags and luggage rack, and carry many tens of lbs of tools and supplies during rally events!

Only when I was riding 2 up did they "occasionally" bottom out on very prominent bumps! For the $$, they seem to be quite adequate if you are into leisure riding and not racing. But I also do cut up the curves fairly well with it and they seem to be stable!

MikesXS has a great assortment of handlebars, and you can see how they are mounted/fit onto A bike on their web site!

However, myself and several others have found the early model goldwing bars to be just right, decent reach, and much better wrist angle than the buckhorns!

I might have to talk to that seller, some reason I couldn't find those when I searched.

I like th eprice, except the $55 shipping charge. And the beginning length of 325mm =12.79", just a little more.

So many decisions....Thats a good thing though
