Hi, everyone... I just spent my tax return (well, I think) on a '80 XS11 SG. My uncle had a Midnight Special when I was younger, and I've wanted a Yamaha ever since. Anyway... I have a few months of freezing weather here in Maine to deal with before I can ride 'er... and I was hoping that maybe ya'll could offer some XS advice for a first timer... I've been reading and reading and reading posts here, trying to absorb all that I can... and thought that I would pop my head out of the ground and say hello. I look forward to chatting with you folks.

Hello Sam,
Welcome to the group. Here is a few things to help get you started.
1. Read all the tech tips on this website
2. Obtain a copy of the XS/XJ CD from Rob Mills, I lost his email address.
3. Consider getting a TKAT fork brace, if you do not have a fork brace already. Ask him about the Metal Start / Horn buttons also.

4. replace the Fuseblock, if it has not already been done
Good luck with your new XS. If you like it as well as I like my 1981 Specail, you will like it a LOT!Bill Woods

Welcome to the forum Sam,
Hope the weather up there is ridable soon.
You will have to give us a Ride Report after your first ride this spring.

Welcome!
Give us a description of the bike, what state she's in and we'll tell you what to do.
I'd change the usual stuff... oil, oil filter, air filter and tires if necessary, brake fluid, shaft drive oil (middle and final drive), check the forks, bearings, springs, the usual stuff...
LPIf it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

Keep an eye on the rallies section, and get to an XS rally when you can. Great people on this list, and lots of technical/parts help, but eventually you get lonely looking for other XS riders, and getting to a rally is part of the cure!
Big rally coming up in PA - XS East - get there if you can.Jerry Fields
