  • Clutch won't engage

    Hey everyone, just got done with the second gear fix and now my clutch won't work. Its like the lever isn't attached to anything but as far as I can tell I've put everything back together right, any ideas? I've already checked and the cable is attached to the arm in the side cover, its just that I can move the arm all the way till it bottoms with my finger. Seems like maybe the basket is to far "down" and so the little do-dad that rotates inside the cover doesn't contact it. Thanks for your help!

    psycoreefer;

    Have you adjusted the actuator at the clutch cover? Try adjusting it according to the manual. If you loosened the screw too much, the ball bearings may have fallen out. That would be a bad day.

    Is it possible that your clutch cable snapped? It happens.

      The actuator arm has 3 positions, but only works in one postion when it's about 45 degrees from the horizontal, towards the front of the bike. If that makes sense.

        I know its not the clutch cable because I can move the lever the clutch cable hooks to with one finger, if it was the clutch cable I'd expect to feel resistance on the lever (not at the handle bars but inside the side cover).

        I tried following the adjustment procedure but it didn't make much sense based on what I can see on my bike. From what I can see I would agree with FJ111200. My arm looks like it will only work in one position and will only engage so far no matter what position its in.

        Keep the ideas coming, I'm willing to check anything...

        Thanks.

          Follow up in case someone finds this in the search later, I figured it out. I was sure I put it together right but it turns out I didn't put the big thrust washer that goes between the basket and the clutch pack in. Needed a break and started picking up tools and stuff on the work bench and there it was just sitting there... took everything apart again and put the big washer in and now it works like it should.
