  • Valve guide removal tool

Does anyone know the dimensions for a valve guide removal tool, specifically the diameters, or better yet, what size shouldered punch will work?

Also, anyone know a good way to get those darn little oil seals off the end of the guide and out of the hole?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Take a reading on the valve stem you removed for your dimension.

Can you still get replacement valve guides?

Removal of the valve guides, heat the head up in an oven but I can't remember at what temperature. 250, 300, 350???? Maybe some of the others might know. But after you heated up the head for several hours (the metel difference between the head and valve guide expand differently to allow) the valve guide to be removed easer with the valve guide removal punch. Mikes XS650 has one for about $6 or $8 bucks but it's for a 650, but could be modified for an 1100. The replacement valve guide should be placed in a freezer or in dry ice for several hours to shrink the guide (smaller than normal size) and the head should be hot for the valve guide hole to be larger than normal to except the valve guide easer.

For the valve guide seals I use a seal pick or seal puller and needle nose pliers
