I am thinking about buying new mufflers for my 82 xj11 and I was wondering what to buy? There are after market mufflers on her now and still in good shape, but they have that tin can sound. I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on A nice set of mufflers, like name and where to buy them. Thanks again guys.

Sporty or Fatboy stock muffs off a Harley look good, sound good, well made. Can be had for free or cheap lotsa places. Sound as good as stock systems except slightly lower pitch. My SG runs well with Sporty muffs.

      Hey Conky,

Since you are looking at replacing them, you don't have anything to loose regarding experimenting with them!

Several folks have taken a drill to theirs and put 3, 4, even 6 holes 1/4" diameter, or larger in the end plates! It can sometimes give you a slightly louder but lower growl, less tinny sound! YMMV IF you don't like how they sound, then go ahead and replace, BUT if you get a nice tone without going too much louder, then you have saved some $$!!!

        I got this torsion bar - - -

it was on my son's Dodge Dart. It busted off just near one end with the typical spring steel in torsion failure jaggedy end on it.
It's ~ 15'16" diameter so it slides down into the average muffler hole just nice. A few savage blows with a BFH on the end of it will pop the muffler's internal end cap right off for that hearty mellow beat. But there's no backsies. Once done, it's kinda permanent.
