rebuild kits are available!! You can go on ebay and buy them from georgefix, or probably order one from bike bandit or even the dealer. IIRC, they are about $40, give or take. It's been a LONG time since I've had to buy one.
Good luck, and remember, once everything has been work on, there are plenty of years left to RIDE.

      Redbone,

I encountered the same problem after a rebuild. Found that I hadn't cleaned out the grooves in the caliper properly and the new seals were leaking. Since you have to take the caliper apart again anyway, try cleaning out the groove with a toothpick, that should cure the leak.

Sorry Randy, he said master cylinder.
When mine gave up from corrosion and age,
I switched to a new one from Mikes XS. Slightly different style, but works great. 16mm as I recall. And yes you can get rebuild kits for the stock 1.

            Redbone,

Now you know why a lot of dealers won't work on bikes this old!!!

All I can say is, "Welcome to the club." Keep working on it. These old girls WILL reward you if you keep working until your done. I worked on my bike off & on for a year or so. I ran into the never ending list of problems as well. However, the first ride made it all worth while. AND, I know that it is in good mechanical shape now because I've touched almost everything on it (just a couple of small things to correct before riding this year). Its also I good thing I did go over it in detail because there were a few things missing (like the front axle pinch bolt )

I rebuilt both master cyls. and all calipers last summer, I bought all the kits direct from the dealer, but I had to go through the manager, because when I told the clown at parts counter, I wanted to order parts for a 78 1100E, He told me I'd be lucky and hung up on me. The manager and I had a nice chat about that.

                Redbone,

So where is the leak at? I am working on a fix for the seal between the reservoir and the metal housing.

I am in the middle of a complete rebuild of the the front brakes and have had no problem getting parts from either Bike bandit or partsnomore.

I would also say that you should break down each and every part and do a complete inspection and clean EVERY nook and cranny. These are 30 year old bikes. I thought I had been keeping mine up pretty good but both of my front disc's were seized. I am installing new pucks for both and all new seals for the master and each disc. It has been 30 years after all. Even broke down and got some new SS brake hoses.

I can't wait to give them a try.

                  Dealers

Ive been lucky here the local yami shop knows me well since im always bringing something back to life. they have searched all over and the owner loves vintage bikes and can find or dig up what ever im looking for which is rare these days. since my newest bike is a 79 and oldest 66. Ya just need a good sence of humor and keep hunting and like the Guys said the first ride makes it all worth while.

So the master cylinders from mikes XS (not the rebuild kit, the master cylinder assembly) will work? I have rebuild kits, but the reservoirs themselves look like CRAP, and really need replaced.

Sorry for the thread-jack! Figure it's better to ask here and not start a whole new thread.

You can remove that crumbling oxidation from ther reservior with a wire wheel/cup and a drill motor. The wheel/cup will knock off all of the oxidation. Once the majority of the crap is off, you can smooth it up with a file or sandpaper. I did this to a couple of reserviors, and it works well, looks good, and saves you a bunch o' green.

Problem is the reservoir is cracked, and the screws on the top are all stripped out. One thing i'm not going to skimp on is the brakes when it comes to this bike, lol.
