  • XS1100 stock air filter replacement

Spent today cleaning the stock air box and filter on my '80 XS. The stock filter element was in bad shape and kinda brittle. I did a search for filter replacement but all that came up was the Pod filter replacement discussions. Does Yamaha still sell the stock filter? If not what material does everyone use as a replacement? I like the look of the stock air box so do not want to go to Pods.

    Thanks in advance.

You can find K&N gauze style, and Uni foam filters at most any bike shop. The fit into the stock air box. They can order you the correct ones. I use the Uni's P/N NU2244

Does the Uni filter you use fit around the stock wire mesh screen like the stock filter?

The Uni AND K&N both have their "own" screen. I use the K&N, and like the boost in performance. It is also EASIER to take the filter off and on. There WAS a Uni in the bike when I got it, and it was wrapped around one of the screws for the filter box.

Do the bolts in the air box have the hitch pins through them to keep them in place? Mine did, and I had the same problem, but I cured that by removing the pins, and using a small piece of shoebox type card board, punch a small hole in the card board, then slip that over the bolts to retain them. Works great, and no more snagged filter.
Brian, both filters will fit into the stock location, and like Ray said, they have their own screen.

Not sure what brand it is, but Mike's XS is selling one.
