  • choke adjustment

I was wondering if there was any way to adjust the choke cable on my 82 xj11, I went to start it today with the choke on and it wouldn't start, then I pushed the rod on the carbs for the choke and it started fine and then I noticed the slack on the cable. The only problem is that the cable is fixed on both ends with no adjustment screw. I was wondering if the xj11 came like this or if it is another cable put on. Thanks

On your # 4 carb, (Right side as sitting on bike) there's a bracket that holds the cable. Loosen this screw to this little "arm" holding the cable so that you can slide the cable back. If the screw is stock, it will be a phillips. At some point, you went to operate your choke, and it just pulled the cable towards the end instead of pulling the choke (Enrichener) bar.

Adjust it back to where it has just a touch of looseness in the cable (You don't want it pulling on the bar when it is fully extended... this will make your enrichener circuit stay on all the time) and lock the clamp down on the metal COLLAR of the cable. My collar sits flush with the edge of the bracket, but yours may differ slightly.

Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!
