  • 2001 ZRX1200 carbs..

Just Picked these up on the Bay.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...231202969&rd=1

I don't know why they didn't attract any interest, (probably the confusing attached photo of the Ninja carbs..) but I'm not complaining. I have read everything on the knowledge base about fitting the Kawasaki 1200 carbs on the XS and most of the details concern the 2004 ZRX1200 carbs. I just wanted to touch base with the XS owners who have done this swap, wheather in hindsight it ultimately proved to be the performance boon that their enthusiasm suggested. Were there any niggling issues that caused a rethink of the whole idea a few hundred miles down the road? Further suggestions for tuning?
I also wondered if they had any specific knowledge of any jetting changes from 2001 to 2004 that might be relevant to the plug-and-play ideal.

Thanks for any and all info,

I am already eyeing a pair of polished chrome Keihin Carb caps for one and four, but not until they are singing...

    Regards,

Did you get them for $25 or $175?

I don't have a lot of details about mine. I thought mine were 2004 model carbs, but when I tried to look them up on the online parts fiches, I became less convinced. Mine were advertised as 2004 model carbs, but they could be 2003 model carbs.

Nonetheless, in my discussions with ZRX riders, I was told the carbs were the same between the years. I haven't verified that because I don't have a set from each year.

I spent a month or so researching my options and eventually settled on these carbs because they seemed to be the easiest option. On my bike, I simply bolted them on.

I like these carbs for many reasons, but I'll list a few. First, they are only 4 or 5 years old, so I can get any number of replacement parts without fuss. Also, that means to me that there is a better chance that they have not been molested over and over again.

Second, they function better than my XS carbs did. I'm not saying XS carbs are bad, because many get super performance from their OEM carbs. But I couldn't ever get my XS carbs where I wanted them. Plug color is exactly where I want it in each range with these carbs.

Third, fuel economy has improved. I'll post exact numbers after further riding.

Fourth, performance has increased. Due to more proper fuel mixture, the bike runs much better now. Midrange performance has really increased.

I would assume that all of these pros become neutral in comparison to a properly tuned set of XS carbs. So I don't know if there is a huge performance increase by just using the ZRX carbs. It may just be that my replacing these carbs brought me back to "stock" performance, which I never had.

I do like the carbs however. The only problem I have is that I have some sub 2k rpm stumble that I haven't solved. But so far, I don't have any reason to go back to XS carbs.

      $25.
Yeah...I know...nice price. I figure the guy is going to get to his computer first thing tomorrow and wonder what the hell happened to the bidding frenzy that was going to drive the price up from the lowly opening bid.
Anyway. I'm not complaining and am keeping my fingers crossed that our seller will follow through...

While researching these carbs, I came across this site:

      http://members.aol.com/roundr1/CVK40.html.

The carbs apparently have a small "coasting circuit" with separate small rubber diaphragms and plungers that ease some of the transitions..

Maybe your stumble is due to a problem in one or other of these circuits, ( sticking, punctured diaphragm...?) It seems to be at around the RPM the circuit operates. Worth a look? Or have you pulled them and checked already?

      Just a suggestion.
Buying good carbs cheap doesn't make anyone an expert on troubleshooting them...

Keep in touch if you find other information.

      Thanks.

        Hmm..
The pasted link doesn't work for some reason.
The information comes up if you Google " Keihin CVK40 Carburetor Primer".
If it helps let me know. If the CVK40 is substantially different from the ZRX1200 36mm keihins, then just let me apologise in advance for the silly suggestions re "coating circuits"...

Heck of a deal if you get them for $25 + $14.....

I could not get your link to work. ??

Thanks for the info on the circuits. I'd like more info on what you found.

            ZRX carb spacing

Hey Guys, Do one of you know what the factory carb spacing is for the ZRX carbs? I used a micrometer on the xs11 and they are exactly 77-84-77 (mm)...I am machining another totally billet housing for a set if I can ever outbid someone or trade some other zrx parts....chop

              I've got some.

              Chop,

The carbs fit right into the stock XS carb holders. I have a set of 2001 ZRX 1100 carbs that you're welcome to come look at and measure. I'm not quite ready to part with them yet though......maybe someday.

I am not sure where I got this little sketch of the ZRX1200 layout, (maybe even off this forum...?) but this might help..

                Good luck,

                They are nice carbs...

                  zrx measurements

Hey Bubble, If I don't get a set in the next week I will come over and check those out, We can take a trip down to BrickTown for a beer on me. Those diagrams are a big help. I see that the ZRX inners are only off by 1mm, but the outter (1,4) are squeezed in by 4 or 5mm (depends on drawing accuracy)...So this is not good on the xs11 carb rubbers, but should be no problem since they need to be spaced OUT and not in by a few mm's.....Thanks for the quick replys...chop
