  • Ballast resistor...

Where is it located on the SG?
    Hi...my name is Mike, and I'm a lane-splitter.

I don't think the "G" model has a ballast resistor. The resistors are on the "E" and "F" models, "G" and later have coils with a higher resistance, and don't need them.
IF you do have one, it will be under the left side of the fuel tank, with two red/white wires going to it. Mine is mounted low, so it has to be pulled in order to remove the valve cover.

Hmmmm...... My SG had one. I removed it when I changed to the MikesXS coils.

It can be a "mid year" change, like the tubeless rims in 1979. As I said, I didn't think they had them, but I have a 1978 and a 1979, both WITH the ballast resistors.
Was your resistor located on the left side?

              Hey Mike,

Here's a photo from the Dyna Coil upgrade tech tip that shows the ballast resistor, just below the left tank rubber mount!

My sg had one, my H did not. It may have something do do with the ignition and black box changes with the 81 models.

My 80 G has one, and the manual's electrical schematic shows one for the G, SG, SF, and E 1978 through 1980.

Looking at the manual the second time the F also has one.

The resistor was done away with for the 81 model year (H & SH), the same as the 2h7 ignition module was replaced with the 4R0 module in 81.
