  • Born on Date 4/78

While considering what needed to be done to the XS this winter I was reminded by the 30 anniversary rides coming up this summer that yes the XS is close to 30 years old. So I took a peak at the bike and the born on date is 4/78. So the old beast is about 30 years old this month. I don't think I bought it untill 2/79.

So the now the bike is in a million pieces as I have deceided it was time to give it its 30 year tuneup. It been good to me so I want to be good to it.

I was wondering if there are many other original owners out there that bought their bikes new. I would be interesting to see what the average milege and history of them is.

A bit behind ya...........81'............almost bought a Wing Aspencade instead. Think I made the better choice with the sport tourer of the day before that term was even used for bikes.
81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Yes the XS has been a great bike. I guess the major reasons I bought it back then was.

      1. Fastest production motorcycle on the street. Unfortunantly this only lasted a couple of months till susuki came out with their 4 valvue head

      2. Drive shaft. No more oil on me.

        hi jeff
        I'm an original owner of a 78 xs11e

I drove it till about 87 then it needed some repair, haveing gotten married and a place of my own, i couldn't afford the repairs
so i parked it until, i could afford to fix it.
well time went by and finally i dug it out and did a complete go thru, about 5 years ago.
it has 16000 miles on it
i don't get to ride it as much as i would like to,
but i never sold it and never will

          Hi Jeff,
not the XS11, no. But I bought a NOS '84 XS650 Heritage Special still new in box in '86 and it is still with me. I hung a sidecar on the 650 a while back but it lacked the power to keep up with traffic on the highway. That's when I got the XS11. It has power and to spare while the sidecar makes the XS11's quaint handling irrelevant.
