  • '79 XS11 Special headlight bucket

The '79 Special that I picked up last summer has a black plastic headlight bucket, and I would like to replace it with a chrome one. Does anyone know what years and models have the correct bucket for this? The one on my '83 XS650 is chrome, but is a different shape. I would image that several years and models shared headlight buckets. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Thanks for all of the great info that I have already gotten from the site!

    Welcome to the site rdarnitall.
AFAIK you can purchase new buckets, round or square, from both JC Whitney and Dennis Kirk . Im quite sure you can find one that will fit your bike.

The '79 Special came stock with a chrome headlight bucket. I would bet you have a bucket off a different bike (early XS400, 650,...).

I purchased a replacement bucket for my Special from the dealer. Hold on to something when they quote you the price.

        rdarnitall,
If you can't find something that will work for you let me know. I'm sure my local boneyard would have something chrome that would work. I wouldn't mind going and taking a look if you like and I could ship it to ya. I know, though, that one of the catalog companies should have something new you can use. The ears on the XS is pretty basic AFAIK.
Let me know if you need help.

may have the bucket you need!

          Hey rdarnitall,
I have a complete chrome bucket with one small ding off a 1978 XS750SE. Overall nice shape. On the sideo of it it says YHA135.
the one on my 81 XS1100SH says YHA146.
From what i can see they appear exactly the same on the outside, as view mounted on the bike. Email me (off forum) at billwoods@wideopenwest.com if interested, I could send you pics later this weekend.
