  • 2nd gear fix help

Hey everyone, I've read all about the 2nd gear fix and so I decided to try it. I've got the darn thing all apart but I can't get the counter shaft to come out. It seems to be hitting the 4th gear shift fork before I get it far enough to the side to clear the bearing and lift it out. Any ideas? I've been fighting with it for about 2 hours now and I can't seem to figure out how to get the extra 1cm of clearence so I can get the stupid shaft out.
    Thanks

    Hey Psycho,

Have you removed the Shift Fork SHAFT completely?? You need to do that to allow the shift forks to fall back away from the countershaft, that should allow you the clearance you need to get it out!

Also, did you remember to put it into 4 th gear before trying to remove it??

      Thanks
I did mine a few weeks ago and it was a bitch getting it out. Keep on trying and it will though

          Hey all,
I should have mentioned that this is a junk yard bottom end that came with the bike.
I ended up pulling the shift drum out and that gave me a ton of extra space. Is there a reason no one mentions taking it out for extra room? It came out easy, just a good pull and from what I can see it looks like it should go back without to much trouble.

I never came across the tip you linked to Ken but hopefully things will happen easier on my bike then on the parts trans.
Should I have been able to remove the shift forks? It seems like everyone leaves em in but lets them "drop" out of the way. Mine didn't seem to drop far enough to clear and I couldn't see any way to wiggle em out.

I almost positive I had it in 4th gear but it was hard to tell. I kept clicking through gears until the forks and drum looked just like all the pictures of the removal process.

Hey Ken one more thing, the link back to your main page from the page you linked me to is broken, its missing the '~'

          Thanks everyone
