  • carb mixture screws

    I am in need of some (2) mixture screws for 1980 Sprecial carbs.
    Two of mine are pretty messed-up from someone getting a little too excited while drilling out the caps that covered them.
    I had another bank of carbs from my partzer, but have sold them to someone here on the list.
    Does anyone have a set of carbs that are being canibalized?
    Are these available new anywhere? If I remember correctly, the dealer wasn't any help the last time that I asked them.
    thanks,
    Mike

    You might try Robert Reil at www.motorcyclecarbs.com for these. If he dosn't have a source, there probably isn't one.

      Is it just the slot that is messed up? Might be able to salvage them with a hacksaw or dremel tool to cut another slot. Might not be pretty, but should be functional.

        I was going to try fixing them if I could not find new.
        My concern though, is that the whole top section is pretty screwed-up. I guess that I could clean them up with a die after cutting the new slot. I just don't want to run the risk of messing-up the threads in the carb body.

          I was able to get complete rebuild kits for my 79 at my local yamaha dealer - mixture screws and all. They were 18 or 20 bucks a set... as a last resort, they were Worldofpowersports.com Hope this helps

            I would recommend the rebuilt kits from K&L, just DO not use the pilot jets that come in the set (they had no size on them, and it took me 3 days to sort my bike out). I cost me just under $100.00 for 4 of these complete kits. I have heard (maybe on Mr. Blaine Hoopes web site) but cannot verify, the XS650 had very similar carbs with lots of parts interchangeability with the 1100. Don't forget to get 2 more of the chrome tops when your robbing the XS650's. I think the XS650 was one of the most mass produced bikes ever, and they are easy to find parts for.

            good luck, hope this help

              XS650SH = 1/2 XS1100SH ?

              The carbs on my '81 XS650 are almost identicle to the ones on my '81 XS1100. Same types of jets(different sizes), same float bowl gaskets, needle and seats and probably the same mixture screws. I buy my XS1100 carb part from MikesXS, a XS650 parts outlet, at www.serve.com/dlewis/mikesxs/mikesxsindex.html
