In my experience the Fluke is probably the best on the market for measuring Ohms, Conductance, DC and AC voltages, but when you are working around auto/MC and are checking say the pulse out of a tail light flasher the DMM in most cases can't respond fast enough for trouble shooting. For this reason I keep a cheap $10 analogue that I purchased at Radio Shack in my tool box. Best of both worlds.

      Folks,
I was not implying that you HAVE to have a Fluke meter, it is just what I use the most. In my bussiness I cannot afford to make any mistakes and once spent over four hours trying to track down a problem that was not even there because a meter lied to me. I cannot afford to spend that much time on a problem that I cannot in good consience bill a customer for so I went to the top of the heap as I know it.
Had I been able to bill that customer for the time involved I could have purchased three Fluke meters, they are not that expensive!
Like I said, I own several of the cheaper ones and for what they are used they work fine. BUT, if I really need to know something, I reach for the Fluke.
Fred, just for your Info, Flukes have an analog bar underneath the digital display and can read spikes also. The bubble wrap idea is one that I had not thought of, it was however in a small blue velvet bag that said "Crown Royal" on it, just was not enough!!

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

True, so true. I love my fluke, both the DMM, and the scope-meter. they do their jobs... admirably. I would love to have one @ home, but 1 Wife + 5 Kids = NO FLUKE FOR ME. so I must be satisfied with my $30 Craftsman while working @ home.
