            "Now boys, play nicely."

            Yeah, MRO,
All mine are up to 50/60 thousand. No problems, either, but it is an issue on some machines.
'course... Someone might have more issues than just a tranny problem should his "Fat ol' Lady read his post.

Another issue may be that both he and AXEL have the same avitar. DogYear has 21 posts... Axel has 238 posts.
(Uhmmm... someone may wish to choose a different one)

As for the LAST quote... Yeah, I can guess. They stuck around for 25-30 years, whipped 95% of everything on the roads, carried people dependably around all over the world and are still considered by many to be the best all around bike ever made. Plus, they have lasted long enough for most of the owners to learn how to spell or use spell check!

A gear problem that can be fixed in a weekend for a bike that lasts 30 years?? Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

OOPS!!! I mean.. yeah, these are all pieces of crap. They aren't worth owning. So please send any and all XS/XJ's to me as I'm gathering them up for disposal. Just PM me, and I may even come get it for free so you could be rid of this dreaded nuisance! That's just the kind of nice guy I am!

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

DogYear..Are you a real? You dont sound like Yamaha enthusiast to me...You sound like some kid from another forum trying to stir up the muck...since you are new ...for all we know you might even be a reincarnated "former" member... As for the eventual to happen to the first gear....comes with the territory dude...my '82 Maxim didn't have any problems 'til year 25 so is that bad for a 26 yr old machine?

                      and another thing

Since when do you ever get something for nothing? There are costs to be exacted for every result we obtain...so the fact that the gears on our beloved Yamahas wear down and eventually slip comes as no surprise to me...I dont sing the blues heck..I dont even sing..so whadda am I gonna do?How 'bout what trbig said...fix it in a week(or less) and it will most likely never break again. And then my MadMax will be doing all the singing...so there...

And all this time, I was led to believe it was a SECOND gear problem.

Sounds like a Harley Rider to me! I've got 93,000 on mine and still rollin' through the gears smooth as silk! He must have the XS11 mixed up with something else?!! Possibly an old tractor jumping out of 1st gear???!!
