    Hey there Paintman,

Welcome to the Forum and XS11.com. I can see that you're rather new to the site. Perhaps you might have missed the STICKY thread at the top of each forum??

The search function works very well, and most topics have been covered many times.

So...you could type in BIG BORE KIT and even 1196 and I'm sure you'd find lots to read! Just remember spelling counts!

Also "replace cam chain", or just Cam Chain, same thing. Partsnmore sells the cam chain with separate master link, and the techniques for replacing without splitting the cases! It's all in here!

        No problem,

Also, when getting assistance in post requests, for info that you can't find in the searches, as well as the tech tips...scrolling down from the main forum page, NOT just the links in the yellow left column, because many of the new ones are NOT linked,....

Please use the REPLY to thread, and not NEW THREAD button, so that folks can follow what has been posted, suggested, progress, etc., so we don't repeat info the possibly could have been posted before....but not realized due to being spread over several posts!?

                Big bore kit

Hello I am in the same dilemma here, so I will post all my findings here as it happens. But I need to work with my Mac 4 into 2 exhausts, 4 KN pod filters, a set of aftermarket cams from Web Cams, 1196 Wiseco kit and Dynojet stage 3 kit. I just got it all back from the machinist guy; I bought a master link from Yamaha for the timing chain, so I don’t have to split the casing. I plan on splicing the new chain with the old one and pull it through until all the old chain is out.
                Tks
                Peter.

                      How big can you bore?

now I can terrify myself with the 1100ccs the bike came with, never mind going for more. But I just wondered, how big can you bore before you can't bore no more?

                        Hey Fred,

If you'll search for Dan Hodges posts, he's posted about how far you can bore the 11 before the jug walls get too thin. It's been a while, but I remember someone posting about the OEM thickness of the sleeves at about 3.5mm, and that 2.0 or 1.5mm was as thin as you would want to go before risking warpage or other problems due to being too thin.

The stock bore is 71.5, the 1179 kit is 74.00 a 2.5mm overbore

                        The 1196 is 74.5mm a 3mm overbore.

                        Extrapolating 3.5mm sleeves, loosing 1.25mm for 1179 = 2.25mm thickness.

With the 1196, loose 1.5mm so end up with 2.0mm thickness which is right at the edge of the limit.......IIRC!

That's why Dan is saying that he will be using other sleeves and boring out the aluminum jugs to allow more room for the thicker/wider sleeves to fit and still have enough thickness for proper strength and wall thickness!

                          Maximizing

                          Hi TC,
sure, bigger sleeves etc. OK then, let's say there needs to be 1/8" of the aluminum finned block left between each sleeve and the sleeves should have 1/8" wall thickness. Stay with the stock stroke and look up the center to center distance between the pistons. Now what's the engine capacity?
