  • Whats with Cycle World?

Did anyone else catch the first letter in the service section of the April 08 Cycle World ? I don't know who Paul Dean is, but I have my doubts about his motorcycle credentials. Imagine to think that someone riding a bike that is 22 years old is some how wrong or unusual, especially the certain and very popular Yamaha that we all know and love.

I dropped the subscription a couple of years ago. It seemed like the comparisons they did between bikes were like apples-to-oranges. They also toned-down critisizms to the point where you had to read between the lines to understand there were major problems. I got tired of hearing how wonderfully-exciting it was to grind-down the pipes and pegs in the turns. Frankly, I think they slant their opinions towards their advertizing revenue.

I you want the truth, you have to buy an expensive skinny magazine that takes no advertising. Classic Auto Restorer is an example of one of those magazines. NO FLUFF

Haven't bought it for years. Only one I read regularly is Rider.

I know Cycle World panders to it's advertisers, But I still read it anyway, along with about 15 other magazines per month and a like number of books, newspapers, and soup can labels. I'm a compulsive reader, also known as a read alcoholic , I've been that way my whole life, and I've learned to live with it. Now the one thing I did enjoy in this month's Cycle World was the announcement of the latest Boss Hoss with the 425 hp. fuel-injected ls2 Corvette engine. If they could squeeze 20 gals. of gas in that little tank they would have a great road bike.

I guess I should have stated that the bike in question, in the Cycle World article, was a Yamaha Maxim. sorry.

The Oldest Maxim is 26 yrs old...that is except for the Canadian '83 XJ1100 Maxim that would be 25 yrs old...

The only one I used to get was BSH (Back Street Heroes) 'cos they had some great customised machines and the layouts they did gave an in depth explanation of the work done and the transformation of the bike. Plus there were very very very few HD based bikes.
Oh yes - the wonderfully photographed picyures included in the article also had the occasional pretty girl in them!!

Incidentally - that was BSH UK as I see there are same named mags over here, and disappointingly enough they don't seem to have a website. Not entirely a suprise as they were just a bunch of bikers (like us I guess) that were technologically challenged - damn good mag though.
