Cam chain again....

Hi folks,
i have been trying to re-assemble my cams and cam chain, the problem is that when i line all three timing marks the cam chain appears not to be engaging on the crank cog. Any ideas it appears as if the tension will not hold the chain on the cog. I have the tension devise off the engine whilst i am doing this ??

Set the crank to the "T" position.
Make sure the chain is engaged.
Then wiggle/shift the cams in under the chain.
Rotate the cam teeth in respect to the chain links to line up the dots.

thanks for that, will try again. i think the main problem is i have been doing this on the side stand !!

For some reason, I've noticed that my cam chain likes to go to the left side of the crank gear even on the center stand. On the sidestand, it gets even worse. You can shine a flashlight down into the motor and look to see if it is on the crank gear or not.

When I do the cams I get the chain on the crank sprocket then put two small bunge cords on front and back of chain as close to the head as you can and then up to the frame. This way it won't get any slack to fall off the crank.
