  • Retail Value 1979 Standard w/ Vetter Pak

Hey guys - here's Big N Blue my refurbished and unmolested 1979 XS11 Standard with Vetter full fairing & matching trunk. It has a decent oem chrome exhaust and a clean fuel tank. It has almost every gadget one might need including a fully functional Cycle Sound system. Original colors are Yamaha Blue; with Silver Mist fairing & trunk.

Controls, lights, signals, horn etc. work exactly as they should. Bike starts within one revolution, runs quiet, and cruises smooth. Transmission works great and it accelerates like a scalded dog.

With 20,900 miles, nice chrome, smooth paint, lots of new stuff; tires, battery, seat, rebuilt carbs, filters, rebuilt master cyl., chrome case savers, chrome engine covers, luggage rack and excellent shocks whats it worth in the retail marketplace?

    What's it worth?

As you already know, you're going to get plenty of opinions here, but there is only one way to find out. Put it on eBay for $.99 and it will bid to what it's worth. OR, list it for sale at $10,000.00 and keep lowering the price until someone bites. It's the only way to know for sure.

My personal observation tells me that old bikes are generally bringing a premium price in many cases, but that is also being offset by a weak economy.

You may be able to get a couple grand or even more for that machine if that's the answer you're looking for. Nice looking bike!

I paid either $1600 or $1800 (been a while) for my full dress 80g with 8k on the clock a jillion years ago. Since then I have lost count on how many people have wanted to buy it. Yours looks to be a prime specimen of classic muscle bike. If you list it, don't be afraid to tout the fact it is a classic muscle bike, no fuel injection, sensors or computers. The down side is finding someone who, 1, has the money, 2, knows what the bike is all about. I would start the price at $1600. But then again, that just me.
      When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger
