  • front brake drag

Hi Folks, first for those who sent me ideas and info on moving the tail lights thanks.

When backing the bike up with my short legs it is a struggle. It feels as if there is a lot of drag on the front brake disc when moving the bike backwards. As this bike is new to me last summer I am not sure if it is a problem with the bike or just one of those things that is common is all of the xj1100 maxim models. If it is not normal any suggestions on the fix???

    thanks again Fritz

    Brake fluid

If you have any suspicions about the brakes and you aren't familiar with the machines history, start by changing the brake fluid. It was recently suggested to me and I was pleasantly surprised about the difference it made.

Try opening he bleeder before you move it the next time and see if it is pressurized. If it squirts out you proably need to clean the brake cylinder. There is a hole in the brake cylinder that relieves pressure when you realese the lever and it may be clogged. Do a search for splooge hole and try cleaning it out

I'd place bike on center stand, then jack up front wheel off ground from the frame. Then check both front and rear wheels to see if it's draging. XJ has linked brakes so if the front happens to be draging then need to see if the offending caliper is connected to the hand brake or foot. Piston in caliper can become corroded and cause it to stick as well as the MC becoming clogged.

If you search spooge hole instead of splooge hole you'll get a LOT more results...
