But is it salvagable?
that's the first thing I think when seeing such a demonstration of bad taste, "can it be saved?" This one looks like it can. Lose the welding bottle fuel tank, fit a better seat, is the front fender now the rear fender? If so put it back. At least the thing still has rear suspension. Go shopping for a real fuel tank and rear fender and the bike is back on the road plus folks won't spit at you for riding it.Fred Hill, S'toon

Just checked, the price has been bid up to $1325. Just goes to show that if you attach the word "chopper", some dolts will pay anything!
I've seen parts bike that went for 1/10 that amount. Oh, wait, I bought one!

The bike is ugly not doubt, butttttttt, I like what he's done with the mono shock idea. The only issue I would have is how much thought has really gone into this engineering. Did he think it just looked cool or did he make sure that size tubing will handle the stress and the shocks angle is right ect......... If it is, I would think that would be a decent price for a good bike with that kind of mod. Just clean it up and get a decent seat and tank.79 XS11 special

considering how the rest of the bike looks, im not convinced he put much math time in figuring the enginering on the mono. I could be wrong, but the leather/sewn skin looking stuff is telling.[b][size=4][font=times][color=#BD0062]Wayne[/color][/font][/size][/b]

I had to do alot of work and test riding to get my R1 shock to work. I just got a heavier spring and replaced the stock one....I don't see how he could have experimented with that set-up unless he had alot of different shocks laying around. There is no spring rate adjustment so that set-up is probably good for a one size rider....Ebay Heading should include.... "RIDER MUST WEIGH 300LBS OR INSTALL A SEPERATE CUSHION PILLOW"MDRNF

They do say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it just appears that some beholders don't see too well!
Last year a young man that lives a couple of towns down the road from me found an XS11SF in a shed, perfect condition, sealed and stored. It did not have a scratch on it anywhere and I would have given any of several appendages to have owned it had I known that it was there. Especially had I known what was to happen to it. It had been stored so well that all he had to do was put gas in it and buy a new battery, started it up and drove it home! Well almost home, not knowing what he was driving combined with stupidity and overconfidence led to some confusion over who was supposed to be on the top of the combination of man/machine and he bent his new transportation some.
He said that did not bother him because he had only purchased it to make a chopper anyway. Long story to short he pulled EVERYTHING usefull off of it and THREW IT AWAY!! Then he lowered it until you could not lean it over about 10 degrees, took a couple of rattle cans and painted it bright blue over John Deere yellow. Including his new gas tank (borrowed I believe from a lawn tractor). After he was done improving it to the point it would not run he put it on a trailer and brought it to me to see if I could get it started for him.
Folks, he had lengthend the forks with pieces of galvanized pipe and they still had some of the fittings attached!! They had cut, reshaped and welded the frame in so many places that it was no longer and would never again be straight. The exhaust hit the ground so they removed all but the first six inchs or so of that also, the attempt at forward controls was made out of several pieces of steel fence post, one with the ceramic insulator still attached. The handlebars had once graced a bicycle and the seat had spent a lot of time on top of a bar stool. They could not make automotive brake lines work for the front brakes so they just took the calipers off also. The welding appeared to have been done by a blind person without opposing thumbs using a doorbell transformer and a length of barb wire. It was now a hard tail (and nose) and was SO unsafe that I refused to work on it for him. He left with his feelings hurt and fortunatley has not been able to make it go as of yet. As it only had about 9K on it I offered him more for the engine than he paid for the whole thing but he won't sell. I am still feeling sick about it.
However I would suppose that if he thought about it and put it up on ebay he might be able to make a fortune from it!!The Old Tamer
