  • Indicators Not Flashing

    HI. having a problem with the turn signals.they will not work until the volt meter gets to 13volts or the bike is idling above 2500 revs.also when i put the brakes on (front or back)at the high revs they stop as well. i think it might be a earth problem but don't know where to start.also where is the earth lead from the battery supposed to be attached to the bike ,mine is near the tool box.

      XSrunner;

      The earths on these bikes are notorious. Look at the ones on the rear signal posts, clean 'em up and you should be OK. Someday you WILL be cleaning all of the earths!

      The battery earth is on the frame near the tool box. Also a good idea to clean that one. There's another important on on the engine next to the drive axle boot. Last but not least, there's a multiple earth on the regulator body (under the tank).

        Indicators not flashing

        I took the flasher box under the right side cover apart and changed the capacitor inside and the unit works good now. The Yamaha flasher relay snaps apart and there is an electrolytic capacitor with two leads inside. Mouser has the replacement part and you can choose the dimensions, voltage, etc. from this catalog. Get one that puts less resistance on your line. Mine will flash at idle if the brake lights are off and a blip of the throttle starts them otherwise. I figure California Special Mustangs flash in a freaky pattern so the changing flash rate on the 11 Special is ok.

          hi thanks for the info.i found that the front brake switch the pin was jamming .i als found that when i turn a right hand corner or full lock on the steering the right indicator stayss on and then the fuse blows. i think there must be a wire shorting out somewhere around the front.
