interchanging gears?

I was wondering if the gears from the smaller XS will work in 11's? has anyone looked into it?
This week I was on lunch brake, headed toward the napa store to get a valve spring compressor to use on my bike, went down a back road and saw a XS and an XJ sitting in a yard (IT's Arkansas) Pulled in and got what I Belive to be a XS 650 or 750 for $20.
