  • Grips for XJ1100J

I am looking at replacing the crappy simple grips on my XJ. Couple of questions. Firsts I read that they are different sizes? 1" on the right and 7/8" on the left? Does anyone sell them like that or separately? Or am I stuck getting 2 sets 1 in 1" and one in 7/8"

Also, what do you have one your XS/XJ? I am thinking something chrom-ish and gel. Ideas?

They come to fit the bar size. That means for your XJ one grip will be 7/8" the other 1".

No need to look for two different size sets.

      XJ Grips

The problem I've found is not the bar diameter, i.e. the throttle side is 1" and the bar side is 7/8". It's the length of the throttle side that will be the problem, most standard sizes are too short leaving a very noticeable gap on the throttle side. It's not usually a problem, just annoying. Also, if you are replacing original XJ grips you will have to modify (grind down) the end of the throttle side to fit the new grip on. If you find the right length somewhere please let us know. Thanks!

        Grips

The soft sponge type fit real good. I put a set on my XJ. Got them at Kaw bike shop for $12.00. I think the chrome style would get real hot sitting in the sun, and would make you grip it too hard and cramp your hand when riding.
        Thanks Tom

I put on open end gel race grips, and cut down the the throttle tube to fit them. Then added bar end chrome mirrors. Gels are very comfortable, no vibration to the arm and I think I paid $8 or $9 at the Yami shop.
