Will it fit my bike??? 1979 Yamaha XS1100 Special Right Side Cover

Greetings... I would like to know if the 79 XS11 Special Right Side Cover will fit on my 78E? I found Two on ebay but don't want to risk getting one and it doesn't fit .. if anyone knows or can point me to where I can find the answer.. "BIG" Thanks CT

Are you talking about the plastic or engine covers? The plastics are VERY individualized. It is almost like that was the only thing Yam did to change the bike from year to year.

No. The 79 Special (SF) side covers will not fit onto a 78E

SF Covers:

LHS: 3H3-21711-00
RHS: 3H3-21721-00

E Covers:

LHS: 2H7-21711-00
RHS: 2H7-21721-00

They both use the same fitting method (small hooks on frame with rubber dampers) but the lines of the seats are different...

The tops of the E covers are near horizontal, but the SF seat slopes downwards (above the covers) meaning that the SF covers would leave a triangular gap twixt cover and seat...

The only side covers that will fit are from the 78 & 79 Standards.
