  • Carb Jetting

Hello all could anyone give some pointers on jetting for the following mods I am doing to my 81 1100 MS. I have the following mods, 1196 Big bore kit, Mac 4 into 2 exhaust, 4 KN Pod filters, Dyno Jet kit, Web Cam cam set up middle grade profile of cam. I heard it is somewhat difficult to jet with Pod Filters so Dyno Jet said use the stage 3 setting in the kit, but I have way more done. Thanks ahead for all the help

    Peter.

    Hey Peter,

Sounds like a nice set of mods, and so you'll want to check out
THIS TECH TIP in the mods section for some guidance. With a Dyno-Jet kit, it's still going to be a trial and error process, test riding it, and reading your plugs!

The guide is more for use with OEM style/sized jets! Good Luck.

      Peter,

To add to what TC said, also realize that aftermarket jets might flow differently than Mikuni jets. The number on the MIK jets demotes CC of fuel per minute at a certain test pressure. Other manufacturers may not hold to the same standard. For instance, a set of 137.5 main jets from a K&L carb kit were all over the place compared to the stock 137.5 jets I took out of the carbs. I just put the stock jets back in and it all smoothed out. So my advice would be that if you are going to buy jets for tuning, stick with real Mikuni jets and tune your carbs from top down. There is a link somewhere on this site telling how to do this. It is a bunch of trial and error but the results are worth it.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Hey all tks for the tips, I just got my kit in the mail and none of the jets fit!! The threaded section of my new jets are too small...going to call Dyno Jet and see what's up.UGGGG

            Jetting

Okay well after many emails back and forth, buddy told me to use the original air jet. Has anyone else had this encounter??

              Thread pitch

Just checked all the air jets on my carb cores and all the '78-'79 carbs have larger threads than the '80-'81s
