  • reserve lighting unit

im installing a HID kit and have read that its good to remove the reserve lighting unit. It just looks like there is a pin connector that goes into it but it no wires coming out of the box. im assuming i can just unplug it and remove it and thats it???

    Hi Brew,

Not quite that simple; two of the wires need joined to give lights. Try a search on the forum, you will find which pair.

The RLU is a cunning little device that we Brits are becoming quite expert at removing or circumventing... :cool

The problem when fitting the HID kit is that the RLU is designed to switch a reduced supply voltage to the "other filament" (depends if you're riding on hi or lo beam when the bulb blows

This reduced voltage is unlikely to be high enough to feed your HID lamp ballast unit, so the lamp won't fire up...

You could get around the problem by using the RLU to switch a relay between hi/lo circuits and feed the relay direct from the +12V... The reduced voltage would still switch the relay, the HID ballast would still get +12V and your RLU and bike wiring would remain mostly unmolested...

        Just a thought... Goo Luck...
