  • my ride....what do you think?

ive been on this forum for a while doing a lot of reading. i bought my 79 standard almost a year ago and it has been an ongoing project. im not quite done yet with it yet, but i doubt it will ever be "done". there is always something to tweek on it. anyways, what does everyone think of it? i just ordered a HID kit and 3" round bar end mirrors for it.

I am a big fan of custom XSs. Keep up the good work. I can sure tell your XS does not go in the rain. You would drowned riding in PNW.

    Cool ride!

Da-Bubble - thanks for the comment on the wheels. your bike was definitely my inspiration for that.

mro - yeah i painted the wheels myself. it was really easy. i painted the wheel completely black after washing/degreasing. i found some pinstripe tape from Kragen for about $6 and did it by hand. it turned out just like i had wanted and the tape is very thin and very sticky so it shouldnt come off.

Nice Looking bike Brew!!! If I may ask, what did you do with your takeoff fairing and seat? If you still have them I might be interested.

harleychanic - Da bubble already PMed me about the faring. i think it would cost a ton to ship because of the size, and its not in the best shape at all. i used the stock seat for my current seat. i used the metal frame of the stock seat, chopped it, reshaped it, added extra metal for support and had it professionally upholstered.

                Exhaust

That was a nice looking stock exhaust that was on it, you know don't you that it's worth a fortune?

yeah the stock exhaust is pretty nice, but has some rust on both inner sides and bottom. i obviously dont have a use for it anymore. i would definitely sell it to someone local, but shipping is a pain because of the size/weight.

Hey you should polish the front forks. It's really cheap and easy and could be done in one good Saturday. How did you mount your tag?

i mounted my license plate off a custom bracket off of the rear brake caliper. i welded a washer to a thin straight piece of round bar and the rear brake light/license plate holder is mounted to that. the washer is held in place behind a nut and its very solid. what do you use to polish the forks?

                        Shipping.

I have shipped a few sets of pipes from here in the Dallas area, and the cost has been about $40 via DHL Ground.

IMO your forks would look alot better painted black. And its alot easier than polishing.
PS love the bike, good work I think you had another post with some of the process right?? ANy way looks great, kinda like a Buell.
