Petcock finish?

I started to clean my petcocks to day before transfering them to my new tank. I thought they were just really dirty at first but they seem to have a dark finish on them. I'm sure it is not black paint and I'm sure they are not from a MNS. I assumed they would be a grey color or aluminium. Do they have a finish on them from the factory?

Same color all round Paul. When you say "inside" I can't help you there as my are NOS and not taken apart yet but if they paint them before they assemble them it is likely normal. there should however be no paint on machined surfaces.
