• Help w/1980G factory full dress

Hi,
When I bought my bike the p.o. gave me the rear luggage "off" the bike, can anyone help me figure out how / wear these mount to the bike?
I'm not sure if they mount to the shock bolts or what.
I have a picture from a brochure, but it is tough to see how they are mounted.
I dont have any of the original hardwear either.
Any help would be great.

Thankyou very much Old Fart,
Close ups of where everything mounts would be a great help.

By the way, what is the asking price ?

Thanks again,

Gary,
Thanks but the mounts are very different on the 80'.

It looks like they mount on the upper shock bolt & rear footpeg from all the pictures I've seen, the problem is that none of the pictures are close enough to get a clear view.
We are hoping that "Old Farts" pictures will help.

Saddlebag mounts - '81 Standard

This series of photos should help sort things out:

I think most of them should be pretty much self-explanatory if you have the parts on hand, and from looking at the 'background' in each shot. Just ask if you need any clarification.

Do different brands of saddlebags mount differently, or different years of bikes or both brands and years ?

I'm pretty sure most of the mounting differences come from the different brands of bags, but there are also some differences in the location and spacing of the various mounting points on the various XS models.

The bags on both of my '81s are hinged-top Vetters that sit inside a frame that provides some 'crash bar' protection to the bags. The only other style I have had personal experience with was some Samsonite bags that were on Black Ice when I first got it.

From the mounts shown in your earlier picture, this looks like what you might have. I have also seen another completely different style of hard bags on an XS which were a very angular looking shape. I've never been close enough or paid enough attention to know what those were.

Then, there's another variation as in this set on an Aussie police bike.

That makes it 4 distinctly different styles, and I'm guessing there may be another one or two out there somewhere.

The Vetter bags mount differently, although they also use the turn light and footpeg bracket. From what I can see, Yamaha played with the location of the rear footpeg bracket. I know the XJ bracket appears to mount further forward than some XS brackets, as I had to add extensions to the Vetter frame when I put bags on the XJ. Bags were originally off an '80, I believe, but don't know if it was a Standard of a Special.
