  • XJ Rear Brake Piston

I need a rear brake caliper piston for an '82 XJ1100; anyone know where I can find one? My bike's piston has some serious damage on the leading edge touching the brake pad; I'm guessing the PO let the brake pads "fall off"; grinding itself to death on the rotor.

If I can't find a replacement, I'll have a machine shop flatten the edge and install a shim; a new piston would be better. Thanks.

Stan, I think they are the same as on the front and rear of the '78-'80 standard. If so, it should be available. You can use the Yamaha online parts book to verify the numbers are the same. If the numbers cross to a newer one, it USUALLY shows, but NOT all the time. Check with a dealer once you have the part number, and see what it may have changed to.

Stan depending on how much is ground at an angle I can machine(face off) the bad part. Don't know how much is to much though. What is the travel on the piston? From new pad to worn pad is a guesstimate.
