  • How Many XJ's Post your Ser. #

Not sure of the "L" that is listed for the 82 XJ. But the U.S. Xj's are "J" models. I have 2 motors for the XJ. The bike's number is only 500, but the motor that's in the bike is 6834. So the new XJ number so far would be

    82XJ-J 10M-006834

The '83 Canadian models are XJ-K and 84 is the XJ-L. Unknown if the serial number still starts with the 10M, but probably since the bikes are basically identical. I don't think there is an '85 1100.

Is anyone actually keeping a running account? lol

My 82 xj has 11G000184 for a ser# - It's fully operational and I'll have it on the road in the spring

My 84 xj1100L is stored in my toolshed (also fully operational but in the restoration process) it's -45 degrees centigrade here in Winnipeg so once it warms up a bit I'll go out and check its ser #

Ok since no one has answered the question...I went back and reread the threads involved with the question of production numbers by year/model/serial #....using my acute powers of reason and deduction ...I have come to the conclusion based upon what I reread...and the actual production # of my bike would be 6126.
It seems whatever the serial # is minus 100 is the actual production #...ha, ha,ha... figured it out all by myself...LOL...so that still leaves me with why it was done that way?

Most companies use the first 10, or 100 serial numbers for the "pre-production" models. This gives them a chance to make changes that may be needed, and THEN start the "run" of products. Yamaha has decided that the first 100 would be what they used.
