throttle grip

When removing the throttle grip to replace my handlebars, I noticed that the end of the handlebar had grease on it. Is it common or necessary to grease the bar under the grip?

I am no expert by any means, but am pretty sure there shouldnt be any type of lube under the throttle grip. Are you sure its grease or could it maybe be stray cable lube?

Perhaps a germlin crawled up and decided to leave a "present"?
