  • Possible new ignition system for Megathrust

I just picked up this setup off the Bay. It was used on an FJ1100. I am super excited. Hope I can use it.

So do you all think this is good/bad or know if it will or won't work...?

      Hey Jessie,

IT's built for a Yamaha 4 cylinder, just don't know if the FJ has the same firing order as the XS? So depending on that, and the type of triggering device you'll need under the timing cover, it should work just fine, and you seem to have plenty of eproms for the timing advance curve adjustments. As was discussed in the Ignition Module thread, it may only provide the CENT advance curve, which is the more pronounced one. The vacuum advance curve isn't as critical to performance, more for fuel economy and emissions!

Wonder if you'll need to graft the pickups from an FJ for it, or if it will be able to use the stock pu coils?? Let us know!

Had been waiting for someone to reply...
Then few minuets ago saw no one had and started a type'in.
Scrolled down to the pics agin and there's TC post

I don't see why it could not be made to work,
but not how well it can be "tuned".
also...just where is all that stuff going to fit?

          new ignition

hey jesse i have a wiring diagram for that msd system you cant use the cdi box to trigger the msd system so i would just bypass it and use your stock trigger coils thats what i did on my last xs i had a few years back.they are really nice to have and you can increase your plug gap send me a email addy and i will send it to you

            Hey MrUtah,

You had me confused there for a minute, when you said about using the CDI, you meant the XS's Stock "TCI" didn't you!?

I think what Jessie has in mind is to REPLACE the stock ignition black box with the one shown and the MSD system, but like you said, to use the stock PU Coils to send the triggering signals to the NEW probably CDI ? box that he got with this kit!

My big question is what the retard unit is for. Here was the listing LINK . I think it is for some kind of boost...? Initially though I was hoping it could replace the vacuum retard unit which would eliminate future pickup coil wire problems.

                  retard

the retard unit is just for that if you are running a turbo it helps control the timing for proper boost but i think you can use it for what you want to let me find my papers and ill get back to you

Well, I got my stuff in the mail today. As excited as I am, I must pose one question. How the hell does ANY performance part manufacturer make something specifically for motorcycles and NOT consider the size. All the components are HUGE! Just the ignition box itself must be 10"x4"x5". Good thing I don't run a stock airbox I think I will make a vertical mounting plate in front of the battery.
