The MNS's (1980LG) are very cool when stock.
Is considered the "collectors edition" by some.
I have one that is on the slooow road of restoration
So I don't have any spare LG specific parts available.
But other than the gold parts, exhaust and emblems, many parts will fit from the 80 special and some parts from other models.

Any day riding a motorcycle is better than sitting in a cage.
Being new to motorcycles the 700 is a pretty good choice.

Well, my hubby likes Christine(hopefully hubby doesnt start greasin his hair and wearin a leather).
mro, we'll write down what we need, and if you can tell us what we can replace it with...COOL! We are actually doing that now. We have to use a new tank b/c the original bloomed out ALOT! I have pictures to show you, but I am not sure how to yet. The airbox melted to almost nothing, just a lump of plastic, so we tossed it I believe. But my husband had a spare yamaha tank, not for the MNS, but I cant remember what kind it was. I did have pictures before the fire, but not sure where they're at.
I am actually getting really excited! It seems possible now! I am so glad I found this site! Me and the man spent all day taking oictures, and looking it over( which it isnt as bad as it could be), I took a look ind=side the carbs, and they look clean as a whistle. I was very surprised, but this bike has always surprised me. I love the older bikes, and this one has sentimental reasons with my husband. He almost lost his dad of a heart attack last year, so I wont let him get rid of it. It can stay in the building forever, I cant picture it in a scrapyard.
Anyway, I know we need a wiring harness, and airbox, so what can we replace it with?1980 XS100 MNS-work in progress-husband's

Link is to the Yamaha parts catalog.
Do not need to sign in, just click where it says proceed to parts.
Find the part numbers to what you need. Then can check if same part is used on a different model or year. There is another site that has Yamaha cross reference part #'s...but don't have the link on this computer , but sure someone will come along and post it.
Any special fuel tank will work.
Will need 1980 wiring, special or MNS
Air box can be had from just any XS but will be chrome instead of gold. Pre 80 air box, you will need two little caps or some silicone to seal where early carb vent hoses went. All ready pluged from factory on the later models.

We have "donor" electrical parts from a 1979 XS750 special (I actually didnt know that this bike was a Special, new to me, but it is an old bike my husband's brother gave him. He cracked the when he was younger, and couldnt afford to fix it, so it sat in a shed for A VERY LONG TIME! We pulled it out of there when he started working on the MNS.)
Anyway, what my husband is worried about is the stator and ignition unit, the wires to the stator was burned up so there is only about 4inches that's left, and thats still good. The ignition unit is charded on top with some bubbling on the plastic, but we arent sure if it'll work right. It looks okay on the inside, but we arent sure how damaged it actually is.
I will post pics ASAP!1980 XS100 MNS-work in progress-husband's

This is the original tank, I put my size 81/2 womens shoe next to it, so you could see how much it mushroomed!
Here is the ignition unit...
Right handlebar...
Left handlebar...
The worst part of the wiring damage, under the seat(luckily the seat wasnt on it at the time...
And the wiring harness, and I think a fuse box...
Hopefully that worked. If not sorry, but my husband is itching to check out that site a little more. He is unsure if our MNS is an LG, how can he be sure. Remember its a 1980(b/c serial began 4H3), MNS(gold chrome), and it IS a XS1100(no doubt about that one) I would actually like to know what the LG means...? Ok, I figured it out, but the time to edit the post expired...

wiring harness, and the other thing...LOL!
Again...Sorry...
(Moderator note - Chasey - I worked on your post to try to get the images to display full size in-line, ended up having to copy most of them out and resave to a photobucket album. I don't think photodump is too friendly to hot-linking from another site. KT)1980 XS100 MNS-work in progress-husband's

Looks like most of your wire is still in good shape, just the wrapping is burned off. You might want to go with a pair of mirrors from an 80's Honda they are almost vibration free and will fit with a set of adapters.Fastmover

Hey ChaseyMay, I'm that Ryan fellow TC mentioned earlier. I've got my home listed as Martinsburg because that's where I grew up and that's where I'll be coming home to stay during leave due to some marital issues. My wife (who's divorcing me) and I live(d) in Fairmont. She's still there, but I've got lots of friends there that I'm going to come home and visit while I'm on leave in the beginning of April. Right now the plan is to ride my new XJ11 there, so maybe I'll have to swing down your way and say "hey" or we can meet up for lunch or something. I'll be anxious to see what you and your man have done with the XS by that time!
Oh, and I'm still trying to pick a name for my new bike, too. I figure I should at least wait till I sit on it before deciding, though. haha"I said I never had much use for [a pistol], never said I didn't know how to use one."
