I just bought some 93 gsxr 1100 carbs of ebay. Will they work and what mods do I have to do to get em to work. Got a decent deal I think 71.00 bucks total.

Well, I am no guru, but I was under the impression that '92 was the last year for the slingshot style carbs.

What do they look like?..... And what size are they?

Sounds like a good deal at that price; If they are OK condition, but not what you need, you will be able to swap 'em for what you DO need on a GSXR forum!

The 36s which are the easy swap for our bikes are not sought after with the GSXR guys.

They like the 38 and 40mm options, which don't fit in our frames........

I spent the past week researching possible carb replacements for the XS. I have organized my efforts and decided to pursue my own carb replacement options in the following order:

1. ZRX carbs
2. 1985 FJ-1100 carbs
3. 1988 XJ900 Carbs
4. 1990 GSXR 750 Slingshot carbs

pggg, a fellow XSive, has installed ZRX1100 carbs on his XS with relatively no real painful mods. His carbs fit the manifolds and he is using the stock airbox. See this thread:

After doing some research on various Kawasaki forums and OEM parts sources, I'm guessing that Kawi ZRX1100 and ZRX1200 carbs are pretty much interchangeable, despite jetting differences. They are all 36mm Keihin CVK carbs. I'm guessing that they will work on the XS in such a way that will allow one to keep the stock airbox, stock manifolds, and stock petcocks. Whether or not they fit is just part of the problem, since the jetting varies between years.

I also discovered that another XSive installed Yamaha FJ1200 carbs onto his XS11 with great results. Bfreehill, who lives in colorado USA, ran his bike at the same elevation that I run my bike at, and bfreehill claimed that he installed FJ1200 carbs and that his bike would lift the front end going into 2nd gear. Also, I did see and did pass up a set of Slingshot 750 carbs on ebay. I was very interested in them because of this thread:

However, in reading more about them, it seems that they require additional modifications such as individual filters, different petcocks, etc., and I don't want to mess with these other mods. So that's why I did not bid on the Slingshot carbs.

While I have no personal experience, I suggest leaving the FJ carbs off the list. They are nearly identical to the xs carbs except for curved bottomed slides. The XS doesn't need the larger bore unless you have SERIOUS flow mods.

Hi Audi,

They don't look quite the same as mine; remote idle adjuster is different for a start!

Hard to tell without something in the pic for scale, but the inlets look BIG!...... The ones I have fit exactly into the rubbers on the XS; diameter is the same, spacing is slightly off; As soon as you get your hands on 'em, you can check!

Those carbs come in 33, 36, 38, and 40 mm, yet they all look pretty much the same minus things like the remote idle. Personally, I have had terrible luck with the sellers of these carbs not listing or answering questions about ID diameter.

Ok got the carbs yesterday.
So the idle adjuster is not really remote, it is just not screwed onto the carb it is supposed to be attached to. So what do you measure to get the 34mm, 36mm, 40mm? I took some more pics, some with my digital measuring thingamajig. Fill me in please

Well judging my the obscure angle of your calipers to the hole in that last pic my guess would be that they are the 36mm which is good cuz that is what you probably wanted. Did the listing say what bike they were off of?

Hi Audi,

Those look pretty good! The outside diameter (42mm) is the same as mine, and the same as the original XS carbs. The additional 2mm over the 34mm XS carbs must come from the thinner wall of the inlet track.

My carbs are about 75mm tall, from the centre line of the butterfly shaft to the top of the black cap. That leaves almost enough space between the top of the carb and the bottom of my SG tank for the tip of my little finger.

My carbs look pretty similar to yours, but lack the "bendy" idle adjuster; mine is fixed, pointing down between no2&3.

It looks like there is an electrical connector fitted to the Right end of your bank of carbs? (Throttle Position Switch?) If so, I may know what they are off!......... As far as I know, the TPS was (Over here!) ONLY fitted to the 1100 "Bandit" range. Did you get those?..... a "Retro" bike. I believe that the Bandit carbs are basically the same as the GSXRs, but the jetting is a bit different. Either way, you will need to stick 'em on and see how they run.

I also have a set of 38mm slingshots. They have an outside diameter of 46mm, and are 90mm tall from the centreline of the butterfly shaft to the top of the black cap; Too big for the XS. I don't know if the 40mm version uses an even bigger body again!

My carbs fired straight up, idled OK, and gave good power straight off, before I altered the jetting at all; I hope you are as lucky!..... Have you seen the dyno sheets which I posted?

Allright, that is good news
The seller said they were off a 93 GSXR 1100. BUT it was a bike shop and not an individual so it may be possible that the previous owner had swapped carbs. That bendy idle adjuster is pretty cool, no more reaching in to try to adjust when that motor is hot.
There are no electrical connectors on these. What you may be seeing is where the choke/enricher lever or cable should be. these are missing that. If you do notice in the first pic too the far left it looks like that brass tube that goes from the bottom of the carb body to the top had been damaged and someone tried to repair it with a globb of hardenning putty. Anyone know what this tube is for?

Oh yeah, what make are these? I hava noah cluea?? Flatslide, round slide ???There is nothing on them to identify them like the XS mikunis.
