  • Oil Filter Adapter

    Hi,

I've been poking around your archives and found an oil filter adapter.

    http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...&threadid=5095

When I get the XS this will be the 1st mod that I do because I plan to change the oil asap.
here is a web site that has some good info on oil filters.

    http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html.

I'm getting fired up about getting this XS1100. It's like getting a classic car but faster and cheaper.
The new 08 Honda Rebel I got my wife was $3000 and can barely get up to 85 mph.
So at $500, I'm getting a fast classic ride with good vaulue too.
I must admit that I've never rebuilt a carb before and I'll need some help. The how to section here seems pretty good so lats hope I don't screw it up.

    Thanks

Glad to see you are already tapping into the tech tips. If you don't find your answer there, try using the search. One more thing you can do is put your year and model in your signature to help floks better answer your questions. Don't be afraid of the carbs. Some advise; don't get rebuild kits and don't strip the pilot jet or idle screws. Unless something is physically damaged, the carbs should only need new bowl gaskets and float valves. Also, unless you are going to COMPLETELY disassemble them (which I don't recommend), you cant use the dip method of cleaning.

Huh? I can't seem to find any thing about dipping. Everything I see is disassembly and clean 3 times.
      Do you have any links?

      Thanks.

The 3 times refers to dipping. The dip sauce will destroy anything that isn't metal. Check around in your area and see if anyone will ultrasonically clean them for a decent price. I have never had to ultrasonic more than once and it is minimum disassembly required Other wise, compressed air a spray cleaner should do the trick.

          Far Out!
we have compressed air and an ultra sonic cleaner at work.
So using a carb cleaner such as Gum-Out will work OK with out eating away rubber parts?

The spay carb cleaners are ok to use. The caustic dip solution is what you want to stay away from, unless you have removed the throttle shaft seals.

If you have access to the ultrasonic, use it. I pull off the lids, diaphragms, floats, jets, mixture screws, emulsion tubes. I then soak all the jets and such in the dip. I clean the carbs in the machine with simple green and hot water, then rinse with distilled. Then I take them home, spray cleaner, like Gumout, through all the holes and blow clean with compressed air.

Gumout doesn't get along well with those rubber parts either. The diaphragms should always be removed before spraying that stuff!

you actually went out and bought a new Honda Rebel? And nobody was holding a gun to your head? Remember Bill Cosby?
